The Broadway community is mourning the loss of Josh Grisetti, the acclaimed stage performer and educator best known for his work in Something Rotten! and It Shoulda Been You, who passed away at the age of 44 on Friday, July 10.
Actor Rob McClure, who shared the stage with Grisetti in Something Rotten!, announced the news in a heartfelt social media post, remembering his longtime friend and colleague. McClure reflected on their years performing together, Grisetti’s dedication to mentoring students while leading the BFA Musical Theatre program at California State University, Fullerton, and the privilege of serving as the best man at his wedding. He also expressed his support for Grisetti’s wife and family during this difficult time.
Sierra Boggess, who appeared alongside Grisetti in It Shoulda Been You, also paid tribute on social media. She remembered him as a cherished friend whose kindness, humor, and creativity left a lasting impression on everyone around him, describing the news as deeply heartbreaking.
In the weeks before his passing, Grisetti had been directing a production of Legally Blonde at the Trentino Music Festival. He stepped away from the production before opening night, citing personal reasons, but still took to social media to wish the cast a successful premiere.

Beyond his work as a performer, Grisetti was an associate professor and served as head of the BFA Musical Theatre program at California State University, Fullerton, where he inspired and mentored the next generation of performers.
Throughout his career, Grisetti appeared in numerous acclaimed productions, including Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound, Peter and the Starcatcher, Rent, Enter Laughing—for which he received a Theatre World Award—as well as Red Eye of Love, Candida, and After the Ball.

He is survived by his wife, Mackenzie Grisetti, and is remembered by colleagues, students, and audiences for his contributions to the theatre community and the many lives he touched through his work.
