Kelly Clarkson is calling out a Brooklyn store after an unpleasant shopping experience left her feeling underestimated. The Grammy-winning singer says she traveled across New York City to browse items she was excited to buy, only to feel as though the staff assumed she could not afford them.
In a post on X on October 10, 2026, Clarkson, 44, described the encounter and compared it to a memorable scene from the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts.
Clarkson explained that she had driven all the way to Brooklyn to visit a store that caught her attention and had several purchases in mind. However, she claimed that she was treated as though she lacked the money to shop there and was offered comparable alternatives instead of the items she wanted.
The singer made her frustration clear, saying the business had lost what could have been a substantial sale. She also identified the store in her post and sarcastically encouraged others to visit if they wanted to experience the same kind of treatment.
Her comparison to Pretty Woman referenced one of the film’s best-known shopping scenes. In the movie, Roberts’ character, Vivian, visits a clothing boutique but is dismissed by a salesperson who refuses to show her the more expensive merchandise.

Vivian later returns to the store dressed differently and carrying shopping bags, delivering the now-famous comeback about the salesperson making a huge mistake. Clarkson’s account echoed the scene’s central frustration: being judged by appearances rather than being given the opportunity to shop on her own terms.
Although Clarkson generally keeps her personal life relatively private on social media, she occasionally shares experiences and updates with her followers. This time, her post offered a glimpse into a frustrating everyday encounter that she felt deserved to be called out publicly.
The incident comes during a period of change for the entertainer. In February 2026, Clarkson announced that she would step away from hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show after seven seasons to prioritize her children, daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remington Alexander, 10, following the death of their father, Brandon Blackstock.
The show’s final episode was filmed on August 31, nearly seven years after its premiere. Clarkson expressed gratitude to the crew, performers, fans and NBC for supporting the program throughout its run.
She continues to appear as a coach on Season 30 of The Voice, alongside Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
For Clarkson, the Brooklyn shopping trip may have ended without the purchases she had planned to make. But her public account has turned the experience into a modern-day Pretty Woman moment, putting the spotlight on how assumptions about a customer can affect a business.
