Kayleigh Matthews gave The Voice coaches a performance they could not ignore, earning a four-chair turn with her powerful rendition of Vince Gill’s “When I Call Your Name.”
The 31-year-old singer from Tucson, Arizona, took the stage during Monday night’s penultimate Blind Auditions episode of Season 30. With the coaches’ teams nearly full, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green had become more selective about the artists they wanted to add.
Matthews, however, immediately changed the equation.
Her performance of Gill’s country classic prompted all four coaches to turn their chairs, setting up a fierce battle to convince her to join their respective teams.
Adam Levine Makes His Case for Kayleigh
Adam Levine was quick to make his pitch, particularly because he has been eager to add a country singer to his team this season.
“I am going to fight as hard as I’ve ever fought for you,” Levine told Matthews, acknowledging that she might naturally be drawn toward Riley Green because of his deep connection to country music.
Levine praised the way Matthews’ voice filled the room and called her a “magnificent talent.”
“I would be honored to be your coach,” he told her.

Queen Latifah was equally impressed, explaining why she felt Matthews deserved the rare four-chair turn.
“Because you deserved to have four-chair turn for you,” Latifah said. She described the performance as “absolutely gorgeous” and said Matthews transformed the audition into a spiritual experience for her.
Latifah also believed she could help Matthews find songs that would highlight the beauty of her voice and allow her to connect even more deeply with audiences.
Riley Green Says Matthews Took Him Back Home
As the country coach in the group, Riley Green had a particularly strong argument for Matthews.
“I loved every minute of that,” Green said. “To take on Vince Gill, one of the greatest vocalists in country music, that’s big shoes to fill and you really did it.”
The performance also brought back memories of home for Green.
He said Matthews’ sound reminded him of what he grew up listening to and that, when he closed his eyes, he felt transported back to Alabama.
“I am a long way from home right now, so thank you for that on top of everything,” Green said before making his pitch to work with her.

Kelly Clarkson Spots Patty Loveless and LeAnn Rimes Influences
Kelly Clarkson also made a strong case, pointing out similarities between Matthews’ vocal style and several female country singers.
“I know your mama must have listened to Patty Loveless because your tone and even how you drug out a note…” Clarkson said. She also heard elements of LeAnn Rimes in Matthews’ voice.
Clarkson described Matthews as having a sound that reminded her of several female singers she loves.
She also highlighted her own connection to Vince Gill, explaining that she had previously recorded a duet with him on “Don’t Rush.”
“I came back because of voices like yours,” Clarkson told Matthews. “I like to be moved.”
Adam and Riley’s Duck Blind Showdown
The coaches’ competition soon took a humorous turn.
As Levine continued making his case, Green interrupted and jokingly ordered him to be quiet.
“Adam, you had a lot of time to talk,” Green said. “You said a lot of stuff, so we’re going to put you in a duck blind and you have to be absolutely quiet.”
The production crew then brought out an actual blind and placed it in front of Levine, blocking his view.
Host Carson Daly laughed and said he had been waiting years for the moment.
Levine was not about to let a prop stop him, however. He walked around the blind and returned to his pitch, asking Matthews whether country music was where her heart truly belonged.
Matthews, who now lives in Nashville, explained that country music was where her love of music began, although she also feels a strong connection to soul.
“That’s really what I wanted to hear,” Levine responded, making one final argument for why she should join his team.
Green then pointed out that he had built the duck blind himself during the commercial break.
The playful exchange eventually had Levine acknowledging that the coaches might have gone a little too far.
“I think we may have destroyed our chances,” he joked.
Which Coach Did Kayleigh Matthews Choose?
After all four coaches had made their pitches, Clarkson asked Matthews to make her decision.
But viewers were left hanging.
Matthews said she needed to follow her heart, her gut and what she knew before beginning to reveal her choice — only for the episode to end before she named her coach.
Fans will have to tune in to find out whether Matthews chooses Levine, Clarkson, Latifah or Green.
The final night of the Blind Auditions airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, with new episodes streaming the following day on Peacock.
