Lin-Manuel Miranda had a hard time holding back his emotions as some amazing artists came together to honor him with a creative musical tribute at the 2026 Disney Legends Ceremony.
The celebration featured a series of clever mashups built around some of Miranda’s biggest songs from Hamilton, Moana, and Encanto. The performers found unexpected ways to blend his beloved hits together, turning the tribute into a powerful reminder of just how much his music has meant to audiences around the world.

Fans watching the performance were quickly overcome with emotion. Many admitted they were crying throughout the medley, while others said they got chills from the creative song combinations. One fan praised the mashups as “GENIUS,” while another said the tribute was so emotional that they could not stop sobbing.
Miranda appeared visibly moved by the performances, with fans noticing how hard he seemed to be trying not to cry. At one particularly emotional moment, viewers even pointed out his reaction as if he was admitting, “Oh, you got me.”

The tribute was part of a star-studded Disney Legends ceremony honoring 11 new Disney Legends, including Miranda, Susan Egan, Anne Hathaway, the Jonas Brothers, Dwayne Johnson, and Alan Tudyk.
Miranda’s own moment on stage was just as special. Presented with his Disney Legends honor by Auliʻi Cravalho, the original singing voice of Moana, he accepted the award with a heartfelt performance inspired by The Little Mermaid. He sang his own version of Part of Your World, a song from the movie that had a huge impact on him as a child.

Miranda later shared photos of his handwritten acceptance speech, revealing that he carried the pages inside an old VHS box of The Little Mermaid. The film had inspired him to pursue songwriting, making the box a deeply personal part of an already emotional night.

But watching other artists take his own songs and transform them into something completely new may have been one of the most touching moments of all.
The audience was already wiping away tears, and Miranda looked just as overwhelmed by the love being shown to him. After years of creating songs that have made millions of people laugh, cry, sing, and dream, this time, the music was coming back to him.
And fans clearly felt every second of it.
